Preserving Constitutional Monarchy in France

What if France had decided not to declare war on the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1792, but instead chosen to resolve differences diplomatically.

Could the constitutional monarchy in France been preserved under the 1791 Constitution, and if so what impact would this have had on France and the rest of Europe?

the problem was, france was never really a constitutional monarchy in the sense that the other (well basicly the uk) was at the time, nor today...it was still largly a absolute monarchy but with bearings of constituationality....its more a combination of the two which showed how it was failing

Remember it took a civil war and a rebellion for Britain to get a constitutional monarcy, so I am not sure that it can be reached peacfully without some major support from the king.

In France's case I think the only way you would get this is if Louis could be shown that his actions would lead to chaos and the death of many of his family (after all the French monarchs thought they where France.)

You have to change the king and his mentality. He proved that at every turn he would opppose the parliament instead of working with it and thus alienated himself from the public which in 1789 supported him (and thinked that other like the Duke of Artois were pulling the strings).
