Pres. McCain's Stae of the Union Speech

^^^
"State". D'oh!

So, what do folks think about President McCain's first State of the Union speech this evening? Did he address everything you think he needed to? Did he bring up anything you think shouldn't have? Did you think that Vice President Palin's outburst during the speech was appropriate?

I thought President McCain touched all the bases. He chastised Congress for not passing eremark reform. He congratulated the new, freely elected President of Iran who was in the visitors' gallery. He complained a little bit about the Supreme Court overturning McCain Feingold.

I'm not sure what you meant about that "outburst" from Vice President Palin. She laughed at McCain's story about the weekend she and Todd took the President moose hunting and that was about it.

Interesting that Senator Obama was tasked with the response. He got off a zinger about 7.5 percent unemployment being unacceptable and complained that Gitmo was still not closed.

Don't forget the part of the response where he chastised McCain for troops still being in Afghanistan and Iraq at Bush era levels.

I think it's referring to the... ahem... nasty exchange between herself and Speaker Pelosi, specifically the use of certain derogatory terms referring to Italians...

Oh, you Mean When she Called her The D-Word ...

And Here I Thought she was Trying to Compliment her, on her Lip Stick bein' Day-Glo ...

Personally, I Spent an Interesting Evening, at a Watch Party with My Congressional District's First Gentleman, Bill Horn!

OOC: Bonus Points for Guessing, Who I REALLY Watched it with?

:p

Nothing he said made up for the current 25% unemployment rate. With the economy in ruins, things are feeling pre-insurrectionary.

I still think it was rigged so Ahmadinejad would win. True, there was nothing obviously or flagrantly fraudulent in the results, but Mousavi was marginally leading in the lead-up to the election. It still smells like voter fraud to me.

But I have to say, it is a relief that Mr "Bomb-bomb-bomb-bomb-bomb-Iran" is actually taking a diplomatic approach with them, despite Ahmadinejad's re-election. Last thing we'd need is a third endless war in southwest Asia...

The McCain- Ahmadinjerad pact is the most fearsome alliance of our time.
Sure, like the Nixon-Mao alliance . It's just a cessation of open hostility and opening of official diplomatic relations -- America's not gonna turn into Iran's best buddy any time soon.

Despite Iran and Ahmadinejad being what they are, I'm personally just glad America's decided not to go on the attack this time.

I don’t think thanking Joe the Plumber was really appropriate.

And where he lost his place on the teleprompt and repeated himself twice didn’t help. The strain’s really showing on him.

It looked like the second coming of Ronald Reagan.

Perhaps the rumours of him having a Stroke are true.

Yet another DBWI who turns out to be sheer ideological wish fulfilment.

OOC: Yes Hendryk, this is just like every other DBWI, it's got no basis in plausibility at all. Not like McCain almost won or something. :p

IC:

Well, he's taking a hardline stance on the international waters thing. Hard on drugs still and blaming Canada for some of the "Marijuana Problem", and he looks like he could use some.

Oh well, at least Sarah is a big improvement, she hasn't shot anyone in the face...

...yet.:D:p;)

No.
She's too busy stabbing McCain in the back.
:p
Yeah... She's like McCain's John Tyler... first she attacks his foreign policy while he's in Tehran, and then it goes on a downward spiral... Personally, I think McCain needs to get rid of her the next election - pick someone that won't undermine everything you try to accomplish... maybe someone like Whitman or Senator Fiorina.

And lose the election?? He need the growing Sarah fan club's support. Unfortunately.

Is McCain even going to run again next election? He'll be 76 years old -- he may very well do a Polk and decide to only serve one term.

It wasn't good enough. For a President who lost the popular vote by four points, he wasn't bipartisan enough.

The 2010 midterms will probably reduce the GOP to an irrelevancy anyway.
