Pre-Stalin/Soviet demographics of Russia?

The USSR, especially under Stalin, managed to break up a lot of 'troublesome' ethnicities/minorities/nationalities through deportation, relocation and settling less 'troublesome' nationalities (i.e. Russians) in the area. Imperial Russia also did things like this, but it was more effective under the USSR.

Basically, I want to know what kind of demographics Russia had before the Revolution. I'd like to get sources if possible. Maps would be nice, but aren't necessary.

I get the impression that not all linguists make stark divides between different languages esp. when they share common root. My neighbors in US, respectfully Swedish and Norwegian seemed to switch between Swedish/Danish and English, depending on their sobriety.

Still you can google lots of gems like this:

"Ethnographic map of the Slavic peoples prepared by Czech ethnographer Lubor Niederle showing territorial boundaries of Slavic languages in Eastern Europe in the mid 1920s"
