Prayers for the Assassin?

Today's USA Today has a capsule review of this mainstream book by Robert Ferrigno, which they describes as an "outrageous but believable alternate history" set some 50 years in the future in which the USA has been divided into two countries, a Bible Belt in the eleven southern states and the rest of the country except Nevada is the Islamic Republic. It's really a future history, but apparently has a POD set either now or a few years before now. Sounds completely preposterous to me, but USA Today called it "a chilling tale which raises fears about the world's political stability and the rights we take for granted."

Anyone read it?

USA Today says a lot of things...the majority of which are bullhockey sticks.

my guess is that this book is what we call "Inspirational Fiction".

It sounds to be in the same vein as the Doomsday Warrior books of the mid 80s - strong-jawed heroic Americans square off against eeeevil Soviet invaders after a nuclear war devastates America (and yet conveniently leaves the USSR able to occupy North America).

I've read it. It's one of the biggest crocks of bullshit I've ever seen, and I've read Harry Harrison's Stars and Stripes series.

"Watch as the Israelis get blamed for nuking New York and Washington, and as Americans believe this nutball claim! Marvel at the entire population of the US, minus the Confederacy, converts to Islam for no apparent reason! And they even bring the Old Man of the Mountain into it for that mystical touch that every lunatic tome needs!"

Avoid it like the Black Plague, or one of Tielhard's rants.
