Its also worth mentioning that the possible abolition of slavery, at least in the majority of the colonies, would change who would have the wealth and influence to take on any kind of leadership role. Perhaps it wouldn't, but that would be interesting to game out.
The people most supportive of the revolution OTL at the elite level were people a step from the top of power. Upwardly mobile merchants angry at the trade laws (Hancock), brilliant country lawyers from modest stock (Adams, Jefferson), military officers snubbed for their birth (Washington), members of a losing party in colonial politics (Livingstons, Schuylers, non-Quakers in Pennsylvania), etc.
Its very possible that none of our OTL figures in power in the 1820s-1830s would have been options.
