That is exactly the first thing I thought. There is no way the Soviet Union could take control of the Netherlands before Germany.

And don't use the theory that the Netherlands could go communist on its own. There never was any major support for communism in the Netherlands. The highest percentage of votes they got was after WWII (because of communist resistance against the nazi's), which was 10% after which it got downhill pretty fast. There was never the danger that the Netherlands would fall to communism on its own.

I would say that the only way for the Netherlands to go communist would be for the Soviet Union defeating Nazi Germany on its own* through Germany reaching the Netherlands or after a succeful (for the Soviet Union) WWIII.


*or at least with the western allies still far away from the Netherland

And if it did somehow, then that would cause massive pre-war butterflies.

Maybe the Allies try the Very Smart Idea of invading Germany through the Italian Alps. They also put their resources into a Balkan Front and Dragoon instead of an attack on Normandy. After all, its the soft underbelly of Europe. When the war ends, the Allies control the Balkans, Italy, Austria, Bavaria, and BaWu, and France while the Soviets have North Germany and the Low Countries.
