Post-War Misanthropy + Burst in Genetics Research = Humanity being replaced

I"m working for a setting for stories, books, films, rpgs, and all sorts of things that starts in the 19th century.

Gregor Mendel and Charles Darwin have a get together, exchange ideas, and fuse their two theories: Natural Selection and Genetics are put together in a synthesis 72 years before they were in our time line.
Two consecutive world wars have just been waged, bringing about previouslty unimaginable atrocities and the fear that human nature may itself be corrupt. This had existed to a degree in many religions, but now it was being brought to the forefront. Genetics is getting to the point where it will soon be possible to redesign humanity. A movement emerges that seeks to get rid of the "sinful" elements of human nature. This movement gains an environmentalist tinge in the 60s. Not all throughout though, but enough to have a serious effect. It sets itself up in the more war torn parts of the Earth - those that have seen the brutality of man towards his kin more than anyone else. They gain much favor in those parts, and with the aid of a cabal of geneticists and businessmen gain great political and economic power. By 1985 these countries fuse into the third great super power: The Progenitor Coalescance, also calleed the Coalescence, the PC, or the Progens. The U.S. brings the ideals of Democracy and Capitalism to the world. The Soviet Union brings Totalitarianism and Communism. The PC is is made up of the New Humanity, beings to whom the mere concept of things like killing are unthinkable, and the Protecters, Humans who have been brought up to serve the New Humanity, and protect them. After all, sinless beings like them would if threatened not be inclined to defend themselves. The Protectors are taught to live and if necessary die for the New Humanity, that they may one day become one of them. But they also know better than to obey their charges 100%. So they work together, and in cases of conflict of interests, look to their Charter, which either I or someone else will develop, to resolve the issue. By the time the other Nations acted, the PC had gained such a foot hold that it was close to impossible to defeat them. But in 1992 as the PC closed in, an alliance of the remaining Free Peoples escpaped into space, to a hellish planet named Tartarus, on which they would be hardened, their thirst for revenge sharpened, and from which they would grow. Their return is something the PC has been preparing for for a long time. 1000 years after the PC claimed Earth, the Human Remnant strikes back. It will be an apocalyptic war, and only one can win

What do you think?

There is one of the New Humans always watching to make sure that things don't get out of hand. It is a relationship of distrust on the NHs, and willful obedience on the Servitors. If this is inadequate for the purposes of this forum, tell me why, and I'll correct it, and if need be abandon it, bu please, don't just ignore it.

..uh..I'm not sure I understand it. Where is the 1000 years?

Try writing it as a timeline

Please, please, put some spaces in, anytime you go over about 4 lines its gets really hard to read on a monitor.

Eh, I kinda doubt that Darwin and Mendel sharing notes would lead to a much earlier development genetic modification- theory is one thing, but technology is another. There's simply not precise enough tools for anything much to be done about it until post-WWII, at the very, very least, and even then it would be expensive as all hell and very slow to develop.

Furthermore, even popular revolts don't tend to lead to the unification of countries. How the devil would this "Progenitor Coalescence"-- beg your pardon, that's a name more fitting for some SciFi nation set in the far future than something created mid-century earth-- properly form?

And space colonization by 1992? Where did the tech come for that?

Very interesting...

So these New Humanity chaps hate war but have to have servitors to do the warring for them ? Which makes sense, as how can you be a superpower if you are not prepared to go to war ?

Unless you advance technology, I'm not sure where the refugees are escaping to in space ? I guess a sort of Moonbase would be fun, but difficult to make self-supporting. I suppose you MIGHT be able to create cryogenic life chambers and send them into the far reaches, that sort of thing ?

Best Regards

Genetic mapping is more of a success born of computer technology, rather than of the understanding of genetics. Watson and Crick could have mapped the human genome, if they had had the computers we take for granted today.

Mendel and Darwin being bussom buddies would amount to very little unless you also have a much more advanced study of computer science.

June 13, 1865 - Gregor Mendel and Charles Darwin met and and begans the fusing of their two theories.

January 1 , 1920 - The New Years Eve that would be remembered by all as the beginning of the New Eden movement. A brutal war had just ended, and while it was waged, more people had died than in any other war before it. Couple that with an emerging conscience that extended beyond national boundaries, and you have people beginning to question human nature even more than some religions asked them too. A group of scientists specializing in biology gather in Brazil to decide on whether this is true. They ultimately decide the answer is yes. The next question is what to do about this. Over the course of a week the decision came to be to start an experimental community where they would attempt to weed out the genes that cause behavior they deem immoral. There was much hubub at first, but the ultimate conclusion was that it was necessary to do it. The next two weeks were spent trying tot figure out both where to put the community as the details involving it.

March 21, 1930 – The colony, called New Eden, is fully self sufficient. It has been cut off from the rest of the world since it first got started.

May 11- 1936– A German Ambassador comes to the colony to negotiate the trade of funding in exchange for their research on eugenics. There is some dissent, but ultimately they ally with the Germans. But one particular dissenter – Ryan Gash, gets the leader of the project to allow him to try and prove that Nazi Germany has less than noble intentions.

January 1940 – Ryan makes the mistake of threatening the German Ambasador and is banished by his own people.

Febuary 12, 1942 – After spying on the Germans for some time, Ryan finally has something conclusive to go on. He witnessed the Germans decide to wipe out all the Jews first hand. Now he has to get the news to New Eden, who won’t be too keen on him coming back.

April 27, 1943 – He manages to get a message out to New Eden, who are shocked to learn of the news. Their’s is universal vision to be extended to all humanity once the New Humanity has been developed. But now they may have to reconsider their alliance. Ryan also reveals he has stolen information that may be critical to the Allies. The issue is how to get it to them without the Germans knowing.

June 15 1943 – The New Edenites reveal themselves to the Allies, trading what they know for defense from the Axis Powers.

August 6, 1945 – The Atomic bomb is used on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The New Edenites are shocked.

August 9, 1945 – Japan surrenders at the same time that the New Edenites decide to reconsider their role. No longer will they sit in the shadows while the world veer towards Armageddon. “We must spread our ideology worldwide before all becomes lost!” Their leader proclaims. And so begins their long march to the day they would rule the Earth.
