On the subject of Robert Kennedy getting into the vice presidency, we do have an actual reference for this, and it is Hubert Humphrey. Johnson sidelined Humphrey, and when Humphrey even slightly disagreed with the president in terms of something like Vietnam, Johnson shut him out of activity in the administration for years. As a side note, this is exactly why you should feel no pity for poor ol' Lyndon when Kennedy sidelined him, because Kennedy sidelined him for being exactly that type of person. Johnson is likely to do this with Robert Kennedy if the party forces him into the administration. And likely, it will be an act of revenge against his treatment and an alpha male domination of RFK as much as it is punishment against Robert Kennedy for any disagreement LBJ would be overreacting to. And Robert Kennedy would not put up with that with grace. This is a War of the Roses situation. These men are going to smile in public and motherfucker one another in every way they can, forming factions in the government against the other, and undermining one another as the clock ticks closer to 1968.
