Post-independence African TLs?

I've recently become very interested in Africa (particulary Chad, CAR and the Congo) during the de-colonization period, are there any TLs here that deal with this period and focuses primarily on Africa?

It's quite a shame because there aren't that many.

On the Congo specifically, there's this timeline by Onkel Willie. IIRC correctly, Lumumba survives and the Cold War really heats up in the country. There's also chapter XIII of my timeline (see the sig), which deals with political divergences in Congo and Angola in light of a Nixon victory in 1960. As long as you accept that conceit and read the footnotes, I suppose it could be read as a standalone piece.

I think Chad is only dealt with discursively, but there may some references to it in Drew's Fear, Loathing and Gumbo timeline. I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for though, since that's the 1970s.

As for the C.A.R., I don't think that's been covered at all.

Alright, thanks.

Strange that the Central African Republic hasn't been covered, in my research on the country I found a particulary interesting event that could serve as a PoD for the country (most likely avoiding the whole business with the Central African Empire etc.)

Well to be honest it's quite hard to find anything dedicated specifically to Africa in After 1900. Africa's one of the 'forgotten continents' here, the other being South America.

What's the C.A.R. PoD you've got in mind?

Well, my idea was to not have Barthélemy Boganda die in a plane crash (speculation is that the French assasinated him) and have him become the first President of the Central African Republic as he was supposed to be, and not have David Dacko take power instead, possibly preventing the rise of Jean-Bedel Bokassa. (who was Dacko's cousin, his promotion to head the armed forces of Central Africa was a case of slight nepotism)

While I don't know alot about Barthélemy Boganda, he seems to be a genuinely good leader and someone who could develop Central Africa in to a better place than OTL.

True, not a lot Africa.

Maybe also because we tend to go for the more common subjects where knowledge is abundant.

Africa is a bit of an "acquired taste" I think. Also because we don't have too many from Africa here.

Although from Johannesburg, South Africa (though born in Denmark), I would not be able to spell CAR even on a good day.

When Africa disappeared off the radar, becoming independent states, their impact on the rest of the world did go down. After all, they were not really part of the "great game" anymore.

Africa, still, is divided into French speaking and English speaking (yes, 2 x Portuguese and a handful of German one's and so on). That is another reason for getting confused in Africa.

There is a world of difference between DRC and South Africa.

True, we have had a few nice topics around, but, alas, few and far between.

HOWEVER: Good luck with your Central African areas - I shall resign myself to reading it, but probably not commenting.
