Post-Downfall Chinese Occupation Zone

As I understand it, Chinese forces were to be given a slice of Japan to occupy after Operation Downfall.

What would conditions in such a zone be like? Remember this is the culmination of eight years of brutal, vicious warfare for the Chinese; the local populace is not likely to experience happiness and sunshine.

With the growing influence of Mao, might there be Communist influences in the occupation zone? How would the Americans and British take that?

The PRC and ROC were like two separate countries at this point; Mao would not get any influence in the occupation zone because he wasn't Jiang Jieshi, and most likely it would stay in ROC hands even after CCP victory in 1949.

So after Mao drives the Kuomintang out, Taiwan has a pre-built colonial empire (a tiny one, but still).

Chinese Occupation Zone? First I've heard of one. I've got the Downfall plans-including OLYMPIC and CORONET (I did my MA Thesis on the planned invasion), and they don't mention Chinese forces at all. Only U.S., British (including Canadian and Australian troops), French Colonial, and Dutch Marines were to set foot in Kyushu and the Kanto. U.S. only in OLYMPIC (Kyushu) and the other Allies join in CORONET (Kanto Plain).

that was the plan, after the bomb we didn't need the USSR or the UK to help so we took it all ourselves

any ways I'd guess with the Civil War on in China the RoC will let a joint USA-UK force take care of their zone with a few good for nothing RoC officers there to look nice and have the Brits and Americans pay lip service to

after 1950 the RoC may take over their area, good training for the real war, but 5 years of British and American control and the Brits and Americans having lost most of their taste for vengeance will keep the RoC in line, the RoC will be against the forming of a South Japan (a united Japan or a free nation will be a big NO for them) but the Brits and Americans will want it to face a Soviet North Japan so the RoC (in need of the west to hold out against the PRC) will most likely give in, I doubt they could rule their zone without joining, the RoC will alway be much less willing to work with the South Japanese and will be against them having a Military, they'll always be more controlling of the City Zones they have.
