Post-Constantine and Pre-Nestorius, could the ERE have conquered and held Mesopotamia?

In the period of time between Constantine ending the persecution of Christians within the Roman Empire and the Nestorian Schism of 431, if the (Eastern) Roman Empire managed to conquer Christian Assyria and Mesopotamia, and assuming any Persian reconquest fails, could they held it without much trouble, or would they have run into the same troubles as they did IOTL with the Syrians and Egyptians, and with the Church of the East?

Just a little something that came into my head just now. Any thoughts?

That rather big IF, Sassanian was more effective than Parthian in fighting Romans, to conquer and defend Mesopotamia is mighty great feat.

I think same problem would surface, Ctesiphon would be city as big as Antioch and Alexandria and can command loyalty of Mesopotamian bishop, clash of culture would help schism.
