I've just yet to see a proper post-WWIII ST TL. (Actually, mine starts before WWIII proper, but I thought I'd do a bit to lead up to the war first.)

Here is the map i promised.In TTL,both Nazi Germany and the USA developed nuclear weapons and used them on each other with Japanese spies delivering the technology to Japan.After a fierce nuclear war between the USA/GB and Germany/Japan in 1946-1948 the following peace treaty is signed in Bern:
*Poland,which was the first country to ever suffer an atomic bombing (the atomic bomb on Krakow in june 1945) regainesit's independence in the generalguvernment area as a nazi puppet state.Today (1954),Poland is one of the purest states in Europe with an HDI similar to that of western Africa due to the extensive warfare and atomic campaign on Polish soil.Poland lost almost 40% of it's population inside the generalguvernment and 95% of the population outside the area due to an extensive extermination campaign between 1943-1952.
*Denmark and Norway unites again and regains the Spitzbergen islands,Iceland and Greenland.They have the highest HDI to date.
*The Netherlands and Belgium united to become the United States of the Netherlands (USN).The USN is an independent republic dominated by the pro nazi Rexist party and the pro western Alliance of Freedom and Development (AFD).The AFD is in power since the general elections of 1953 when they wrested control of the parliament from the rexists.Dutch possession in Asia were passed on to Japan while Congo and Urundi becomes independent expect for the coastal region.The rest of Congo was randomly splitted between Dutch warlords.
*France was splitted between French National State (FNS) in the north of the French Republique (FR) in the south.The FR kept Algeria and Tunisia with the expection of Tunis and gave The rest of their possessions in Africa to either Germany or the FNS.French possessions in India were annexed by Japan.
*Britain and Ireland:Britain had suffered greatly from the war.All the major cities saw atomic bombings during the war and the British economy was devastated.Scotland and Wales declared their independence during the war and Irland annexed the 26 counties of Ulster.Scotish and Welsh independence and Ireland's sovereignity over the whole islands were recognised by the government of the UK (now renamed England).The USN annexed the area of Kent and Wessex while the remaining parts of southern England formed the German puppet states of Cornwall.Newfoundland became an independent state while Canada was annexed by the United States.Australia,New Zealand and the British possessions became Japanese puppet states.Guyana and Jamaica were annexed by the USA,The Union of South Africa became independent and annexed adjacent colonies.The state of Judea was declared in the British mandate of Palestine,Transjordan,Lebanon,Southern Syria and Cyprus.It is strongly fascist oriented and a close ally of Both Italy and Germany (and adopted Nazi policies towards the Arabs of Syria I.E. mass extermination) and the three of them cooperate in a joint war against the kingdom of Egypt.The rest of the British colonies declared their independence.
*Finland was given Leningrad.
*The USSR collapsed and dissolved into several states.
*Most of the Balkan went to Italy as a ''prize'' for their early walking out of the war.The German possession in northeastern Greece and Crete went to Turkey which joined the allies side briefly in late 1947-early 1948.
*The Japanese empire annexed capturedterriotriesand enslved the native inhabitants.The empire is effectively in economic ruins due to the use more than 25 atomic bombs during operation Downfall.
All in all,this is not exactly a post apocalyptic scenario but civilization is expected to stagger for at leaset several decades and the three ways cold war betweenthe USA,Germany and Japan may escalate into a full scale nuclear war at any given time.

Good idea.The canon and the novels are really vague on the cause of the outbreak of the war.They just mention a rivalry between the west and the eastern coalition (i always imagined it being NATO+Israel+Australia+New Zealand+Japan+South Korea VS China+North Korea+Pakistan+The Arab world+Russia and co.)

Here is a map Mars from a ATL When aliens waged war on the humans for five years (2007-2012) and completely anihilated every living thing on Earth.a few survivors were sent to Mars to reestablish civilization there with the genepool of all of humanityas well as that of most of the earthly animals.over the times civilization was rebulit in a now terraformed Mars.The technology level is that of the 2000 BCs.The nations are:
*New America:This is the oldest and most advanced nation on the planet (created in 100 AW and have a technology level on par with that of the Romans).New America was created by the original refugees' grandchildren and is based on the legendary United States of America.It have a semi democratic system where all adult free men can vote into one of two candidates to lead the country for the restof their lives.The capital is called Washingtonia (after the god Washington) and their religion oblige them to threat their slaves and foreigners like equals (expect in political status).
*United Socialist States:The USS was created in 102 AW on the island of Novolgograd.Based on the Marxist-Leninist ideal,they are the only society which forbid slavery and gives equal status to women.It is a mainly agrarian culture with the capital of Novaya Zmelia as their only city.
*Cult of the Human Eater: Not really a state,the cult was created by the original refugees in 3 AW on the island of Kresno-Kharkul.The ''Human Eater'' which is their object of worship is actually an alien who was left behind after the invasion to keep an eye on events in Mars.They are regularly offer slaves and animals as food for the alien which resides in the main temple in the interior of the island.
*Holy Kingdom of Judea:Eastablished in 234 AW,the HKJ is a Jewish theocratic state which rules the strait of YHWE.
*Regno D'Italia:A fascist state established in 500 AW.Relatively large and extremely millitaristic.
*Nova Brittania: A nation of seafarers and colonialists ruled by the king and controls the majority of the islands in the sea of Tranquility.
*Deutsches Reich: A German empire based state.Very millitaristic and ruled by the supreme kaizer.In a state of permanent war with both New America and Nova Brittania.
*Rossiyskaya Imperiya: An absolute monarchy ruled by a tsar.A relatively backward state (In par with the ancient Sumerians),the nation never played a major role in Martian politics.
*The rest of Mars isinhabited by various barbaric and semi barbaric hunter-gatherer tribes.
