I don't think he is joking.

I’m not.

A stark vision and a disconcerting opinion.

In my opinion, a Iran war cant end well for anyone involved. We can still turn this cycle around, i think, but if Iran war occurs then i doubt most will want to live in the same universe with the "you" that allowed the ensuing bloodbath to occur.

"Financial slavery" is a term for working for wages. People who use that term DO consider it the same as slavery.

Financial slavery is a system where all your production and output is geared to produce the most possible financial gain for others than yourself.

Capitalism is the same but for personal growth.

You rid the US of the laws that inhibit the economy and the laws that allow banker bailouts and you will return to capitalism from the present system of financial slavery.

Tis all relative i suppose.

FDR is not elected in 1932 and there is no New Deal legislation and there is no vigorous government effort to provide relief and employment. Instead there is more of Hoover's empty assurances that prosperity is right around the corner. The federal government believes the economy should be left to the private sector and takes a hands off approach. At this point it would be very easy to see a revolution against what many poor people would see as an uncaring government that belonged only to the rich.

The only problem with that is I find it very hard to believe that there in those times would not be SOMEONE who sees the writing on the wall and goes for a more hands-on fiscal policy.

If the electorate hates someone than they can vote him out of office and replace him with a person they like better.

The system will be truly and impossibly broken once that is no longer possible.

Had this idea of a coup at the height of the depression by Pattan, ledaing to an all out civil war in America.

I already covered this earlier in the thread. Patton was only a colonel until 1940, first of all, and second of all I can't see him having enough political motivation to overthrow FDR.

-2000 election fiasco draws out longer, no resolution until March or April (winner is not important to rest of timeline)
-Economy takes a dive as a result of uncertainty moreso than OTL
-09/11 rattle psyche and international confidence in not only our ability to defend ourselves but also our economy
-Housing bubble bursts early just as Greenspan leaves office and Bernacke does some of the same things as OTL to try to fix it
-Massive selloff on Wall Street turns into a cascade that is not stopped until over $1 trillion in stocks are sold (we actually came very close to much worse happening in OTL and the stock market was closed early one day)
-Sudden closing on Wall Street mirrors more uncertainty as 2004 election is razor thin/markedly closer and 2008 election is a deadlock at 270 votes each as the economy completely crumbles
-By opening of 2010 the Occupy Wall Street movement is far larger, much more organized, and massive protests gather in cities across the US
-July 4 2010: A large combination protest/demonstration in (insert city here) goes awry as radical anarchist elements detonate a bomb that kills hundreds and open fire on the crowd, both sides blame the other not realizing that the real criminals only want destruction. Twitter and Facebook carry the news worldwide in a matter of minutes and the situation continues to deteriorate as "New Hoovertowns" have sprung up across the US and new jobs are mostly white collar/high skillset and those that pay what college grads and even some domestic Americans without a college education think they should get or are willing to take are virtually nonexistant...

You do realize that Hoover laid the groundwork for the New Deal right? The image of him doing nothing is based totally on the initial reaction, after that didn't work he started trying other things. I should also add that if Hoover beats FDR in 1932 it means the Depression isn't as bad as it was OTL and the people reelected him.

What matters here is whether or not people feel like there has been recovery in the Great Depression. If things seem like they are worse (regardless of whether they are or not) people are going to be a lot angrier than they were OTL.
