Possible term/s for the mixed French-indigenous Australian population

In the thread "French settled Australia in the 17th century", I commented that a French Australia (L'Australie) would have a mixed population, which was a result of the intermarriage between French settlers and indigenous Australians.

What could be the possible term for this alternate mixed-race Australian population. You know, the counterpart of mestizo or mulatto. (While the term métis is possible, I think that's only exclusive to the French-speaking mixed-race population of Western Canada).

The French are likely to perceive the Aborigines as being similar to Africans simply as a result of skin tone (genetically however, they're probably closer to the French). So they could end up calling mixed-race children Mulâtres (French word for mulattoes), or potentially Gens de couleur, the French term for non-enslaved black people in Saint-Domingue which usually applied to mulattoes.
