Possible Sunni Iran Sufi Direction

Seeing how Turkish and Iranian cultures have often melted and while they are unique and distinct they share many elements, I wonder, had Iran remained Sunni, might it take a Sufi turn? For one, I think it would evolve similarly to the Turkish influences, for two, Persians might change it more from mainstream to be more adapted to their culture. Thoughts?

A Sufi Mystic Iran would be interesting. Maybe contain Zoroastrianism or Indian elements. It depends from the rulers mostly which direction the state religion turns. Maybe a Sufi orientated Turkish dynasty takes over Iran and heavely Invest into Sufi monastries and schools.
