Possible Collaborative Timeline, "The Blueprint: Rise of the Roc-A-Fella Republican"

Would anyone be willing to work on a timeline I want to do? It would start in 1985 and end in 2012. In the TL, Shawn Carter, better known as Jay-Z, has a life-changing experience in his youth and becomes a politically active Republican, eventually being elected to Congress and becoming the Republican Vice-Presidential nominee in the 2012 elections, where the Republican Party wins. Along the way, he sparks a conservative movement within elements of the black community in America. The timeline would likely including a one-term President Gore, no Iraq War and an earlier collapse of the housing bubble.

I would be mostly working on the Jay-Z end of things, detailing his life and political career. I would need plenty of help in terms of the broader world however.

Anyone, or is it too nuts?

Sure, and why not have Ron Paul convert Jimmi Hendrix into a Libertarian on the way as well....

Sure, why not? :p

But seriously, if you listen to Jay-Z, I could see him becoming a Republican. The PoD I had in mind was that on his way home one day in 1985, Shawn Carter happens on a copy of Capitalism and Freedom by Milton Friedman, which he reads. He becomes enamoured with Friedman's ideas, and decides to focus harder on school. While still selling crack periodically, and still being involved in the rap community, Shawn manages to get into Baruch College at the City University of New York, a business school. He becomes involved in the local Republican party there, with his ideology becoming a mix of radical neo-liberal economics, social moderation, and a certain type of conservative black economic empowerment, based on urban free-enterprise zones.

While some elements of this seem sort of wankish/Mary Sue-ish the idea of a well-known Republican or Libertarian black rapper isn't totally unheard of. 50 Cent and Eazy-E were both famously Bush supporters (albeit W and HW respectively) for example. And more recently you had Lupe Fiasco attacking Obama and admitting to anti-government views. Now granted with that kind of background he's highly unlikely to get elected. But he might become a talk show host like say, Larry Elder or Herman Cain. Which is an interesting premise in and of itself. So yeah, with some tweaking this could be good...

A truly amazing idea!

I have been an avid visitor to this message board for some time now, but never registered. I finally did so to be able to post a comment in this thread.

I am very much intrigued by this scenario, and I would very much have liked to help out in developing it. However, I'm afraid I wouldn't be of much use in this. I know way too little about American politics and society to really be able to contribute (I'm Swedish). I'm not even that knowledgeable on the subject of Jigga Man, despite being a fan of his music.

What I can offer without a doubt is my moral support and encouragement.
If you decide to pick this up, I am more than willing to help you out in what ways I can; don't be afraid to ask.

A great idea, and very interesting, I admit I can't help you with this, but good luck! I'll be following:)

Haha, thanks for the interest. If you have any ideas, they would be wonderful. I have a concept story in the Writer's Forum, called "I'm Out For Presidents to Represent Me", which follows Representative Shaun Carter's (R-NY) nomination as Vice-Presidential candidate for the Republican party along with John McCain in the 2008 election campaign against Jerry Brown and Barack Obama. I may actually start writing a TL in the next couple weeks, after my exams are finished.
