Possibility of success for the 1798 Irish rebellion

Inspired by the French Revolution and seeing an opportunity during the revolutionary wars of the times, thousands of Irish rebels rose up in 1798 and attempted to throw off their oppressors.
Their initial plan included an attempted rising in Dublin, however this plan was discovered and the plot suppressed. Nevertheless thousands of rebels did rise up around Dublin, and managed to fight the British for a while before being defeated. Subsequently the French attempted to interfere in their aid, but most of the forces sent to Ireland were intercepted while those that did land were eventually defeated.
However, let’s assume the following two PODs happen: first of all the plot in Ireland isn’t discovered and the rebels manage to take most of the city by surprise; and secondly the French successfully land a sizable force in Ireland.
How successful could the rebellion be? Could it successfully secure most or all of Ireland? And could it hold out against the inevitable British expeditionary force? If it does could it even maintain itself, considering it will likely be blockaded by the British? Furthermore how does this affect British policy vis-a-vis revolutionary France?

It fails miserably and everyone involved either hangs or spends a decade clearing bush in Australia.

Unless you take the Royal Navy out of the equation any French expeditionary force would be cut off and isolated from resupply and while Napoleonic armies aren't as dependent on supply as later ones for the rising to have any chance of success they need massive amounts of French muskets, gunpowder and shot and in order to succeed continuous resupply. The Wexford Rising mostly consisted of pike armed rebels against musket armed troops which went as well for the rebels as you'd expect. Making it nationwide simply makes it bloodier.
