Possibility check: Finnish empire

Would such a finnish empire be possible ? in my timeline there is a POD during Caesars time, so there would be lot of possbilites.

Not much. Population of Northern Europe was quiet small and there was very different peoples. They didn't even speak same languages. And there is quiet cold climation so there can't be very large population.

With a POD in the age of Caesar, almost anything is possible. Doesn't this correspond fairly closely to the area that Novgorod traders went into for furs, anyway? Put a Finno-Ugric-speaking city somewhere there and introduce something like the yasak - you're set. It's not like most of the very thinly spread-out population will be able to resist an organised medieval polity.

A better way to put it would be for the Finno-Ugrics to play the analogue to the East Slavs while the Ostrogoths would conquer them, but eventually get assimilated into the Finno-Ugric population.

The problem is, the Finns were less economically advanced and much, much less populous than the East Slavs. There's no way they can fit the same niche without some serious changes way back in the past.

That said, the 'empire' pictured in the OP is pretty much what you would expect to fall under the influence of a Finnish state, where one to butterfly away Novgorod, keep the Slavs further south by whatever method...
