Portuguese colonies partitioned......

What circumstances could lead to this? It was considered OTL by Germany and Britain, so could it have actually occured? Would any other colonial powers involve themselves? What would be the said territorial gains?

I don't think it was really planned to make a proper alliance against Portugal and invade its holdings, but just to put "order" in the event that Portugal imploded completely and though to sell the colonies. The last wasn't seen as far fetched as the Portuguese parliament actually debated this during the two times it went bankrupt around 1900.

I'd think France would have something to say about it...

Possibly the Netherlands (East Timor)...

Maybe even Belgium... :D
This would be a plus for Germany. Not only is France alienated from Britain, so that even if Britain doesn't commit to war with France, it won't allign with France either, but Germany has an excuse to invade through the lowlands. What more could they ask for?:)
