Porfirio Diaz in ww1?

One commonly asked question on the site is what if Mexico joined the centrals in ww1. This is of course all because of the mysterious Zimmerman Telegram. I tend to question the existance of the telegram but that's not what I'm wondering about. Mexico was in the midst of revolution/civil war at the time and would never be able to contribute anything to the central powers war effort. However what if Diaz was still in power. Under Diaz, dictator or not, Mexico was thriving. If he didn't announce democratic reforms in 1908 he would probably remained in power until his death, which his life may have been prolonged if the revolution hadn't occured. Would Mexico under Diaz be more willing or able to assist the Central Powers? Would Diaz' regime even want to?

According to this, just before the Mexican Revolution IOTL, there were 25,000 men in the Mexican Army in theory, and just below 13,000 in practice. In 1914, according to this, the U.S. army had 98,000 men, nearly half of whom were stationed at home.

If the 84-year-old Díaz had declared war on the U.S., I think the only personnel to be mobilized would be the ones who gently escorted him to a nursing home.

Definitely. If not then the revolution might well be started over that issue, with the US aiding the rebels instead of just spectating as IOTL.

But I don't see that happening. Mexico is a powder keg, and Diaz is going to be very careful not to provide a spark.

Any chance that Diaz (or his groomed successor, who that might be) might side for the Entente, in exchange for aid of some sort? I could see the British and French giving the Mexicans military and civilian aid in the form of technology transfer and government advisors, in exchange for a half-dozen divisions of Mexican cannon fodder...

Diaz getting debt relief for Mexico would be a good start.

The Americans eventually began to aid some of the rebels but this was after Diaz had fallen and the counter revolution had occured
