Population of Spanish America?

Hey Guys,

An OTL question here, does anyone know the populations of the various Spanish American colonies between the 1760's-1780's?

For example how many people lived in the Vice Royalty Rio de la Plata? According to this website it was 22,000 in 1776, but this seems like a very small number to me.

There was a Census done arround that time. I don't know what the criteria involved was, but that number's about right. You've got to remember the population of the Americas crashed hard just 200 years before, and then the Spanish didn't really send that many people over durring their rule.
Cuba for instance only had a population of 171,600 total in 1774.
EDIT: Also, that site strikes me as untrustworthy.

In 1778 census, in the city of Buenos Aires there were 15,800 Spaniards, 1,300 American-Indian and aborigines and 7,300 mulatto and black people. Thirty years later, in 1810, year of May Revolution, there were 22,800 Caucasian, 9,600 black and mulatto people and only 150 aborigines. Black population represented 30% of the total number of inhabitants of the city.

These numbers are from an American atlas from 1822, but they may be of some help...

Another screencap from the same atlas claims there is no detailed data for South America, but perhaps the American writers simply didn't have access to it.

Tht's probably right, but that's just for the city, not the whole Vicerroyalty

True, but that is what I was trying to show you - that the total for Buenos Aires is about what you were quoted for the whole of the vice-royalty. Either someone has confused the information, or they are just wrong.
