Popular music without 9/11?

Yeah, i know, pop culture minus 9/11 has been done a lot, but still, what would the various genres of music (country, rock, rap, metal, etc) look like if 9/11 never happened or was prevented?

Darude- Sandstorm becomes the biggest hit in Billboard hot 100 history. Ron Paul uses it as his campaign song which results in him becoming America's most popular and well loved president since Roosevelt, America undergoes an unprecedented era of economic prosperity and scientific innovation, leads to a colony on Mars by 2030.

One of my favorite albums, Green Day's American Idiot, is butterflied away or made unrecognizable.

Green Day would probably re-record and release Cigarettes and Valentines, which they were working on in OTL until the master recordings were stolen from the studio. Rather than re-record the lost tracks, the band made a new album from scratch, which became American Idiot. The music on Cigarettes and Valentines was said to be more straightforward punk rock, similar to the songs on Kerplunk and Insomniac, and would have been a return to form for Green Day. The band has actually played the title track live, and they released it on their 2011 live album Awesome as Fuck.

But would Green Day have had the same level of success without American Idiot? That album essentially revived the band's career after a decade of gradually declining commercial success. "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" and the other singles were played constantly on the radio, and the band received numerous awards. There could be another album that revives the band's career in the 2000s, but would it have the same impact as Idiot?
