pop culture with no Star Wars Prequels

In an alternate universe, Lucas died in 1996 in a car accident. His will said not to ever write the prequels albeit the "Special Editions" were finished by Rick McCallum. Although said will allows other movies to be made, they cannot be made within a decade of his passing. How does pop culture react to his passing and their absence???
FYI:This ONLY deals with the era the prequels were made.

In Death George Lucas is considered a film making genius. It becomes fashionable in film school to watch and copy Star Wars films.
As far as the franchise the Expanded Universe had already started before 1996 so it will continue to grow as OTL. The sequels will get made using the Expanded Universe for material.
You will probably get a version of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. To get around the prequel clause I see film makers creating their own backstories for original characters in the sequels or using material that was only referred to in the original trilogy.
For example The Clone Wars were not explained in the original trilogy. So a filmmaker can make a Clone Wars film but not refer to any of Lucas’ characters. The Lucas estate could go to court but I think they would either loose or take the money.

I can seen an alt- Clone Wars, but more like a Rogue One type film, existing(but no references to his characters by name).
