Pop-Culture/Star Wars WI: Del Rey takes a break from Post-ROTJ Era after NJO

What if Del Rey decided to take a break from the post Return of the Jedi era story arc after the Unifying Force was published in 2003, ending the Vong story arc. Let's say they put any storylines they have about Luke and co. on hold indefinitely and decide to focus on another era, maybe say during the Old Republic era or an earlier Legacy Era(as in directly jump to the comics Legacy era to focus on the descendants of the main trio, nothing about Jacen going Sith and killing Mara or Aboleth appearing)

What would be the implications of this on the Expanded Universe and on pop culture in general? I think this might give Episode VI more weight and meaning because the narrative would go "and after restoring balance to the force and fighting against the onslaught of the Vong, the Galaxy was finally at peace until the Legacy Era", and the late EU won't be seen as uber grimdark and maybe more bittersweet(bittersweet cuz Chewie, Anakin Solo and billions die, but the galaxy gets a somewhat happy ending that is NOT reversed by the Legacy novels). And I also think there may be more opening up of time periods not seen before or in OTL. But what does everyone else think about what would happen?

I think if the Disney buyout happens, we wouldn't get Kylo Ren as a villain, but not sure what else happens.

I could get behind this. Unfortunately, my knowledge of the EU is focused more on the Thrawn era, though I have some of the Vong-period books that I should get around to reading. I like the idea of a non-sith Jacen Solo, though. I could imagine some more Old Republic-era novels. Also, I feel like a lot of people who got sick of the grimdark would stay fans of the later Expanded Universe. To be quite honest, though, I feel like if there was still a buyout Disney would probably still decide to scrap the EU, although they might keep some things canon or semi-canon.

I imagine in TTL the Vong, or an reworking of them, would be the enemy in the sequel trilogy. Well, that or we might get something based on the Thrawn Trilogy or Dark Empire. Maybe both, with a fourth trilogy focusing on the Vong, with the third trilogy focusing on the increasingly desperate Empire trying to regain power, either to reestablish the Empire (most imperials), prepare for the unstoppable Vong invasion (Thrawn), or both (Sheev). That's just me, though.

I think this could be possible, but it's important to remember that they did Old Republic, Clone Wars and Legacy stuff all at the same time that they were doing post-NJO stuff, so you wouldn't really be able to convince them that it's an either or proposition. With the exception of the Clone Wars stuff, none of it is as safe and lucrative an investment because of the lack of movie characters, though. And after NJO didn't get as warm a reception as they were hoping for, Del Rey turned hyper-conservative, which is the main thing that gave us the cynical cash grabs of LOTF and FOTJ. They didn't want to take their chances on new characters and settings without something of a known property to hedge their investments.

All of this said, we certainly could have been spared the books we got. From everything I've read, the decision to bring Troy Denning on was a rather spur of the moment decision, and they didn't have any big plans for a few years after NJO wrapped up, giving Denning a lot of creative control over the future by default. If they'd approached someone else instead, like Aaron Allston, John Jackson Miller, or Sean Stewart, we could have had a very different and probably far superior post-NJO canon.
