Pop-culture of the Kaiserreich

Deleted member 82792

Something interesting to consider is what sort of cultural malaise there might be in a France that Lost the Franco-Prussian War, Lost the First Weltkrieg, and then, assuming a really lucky player controlling the German Empire, get's their tailbone kicked between their shoulder blades for the third time when they go to war over Switzerland.

All the jokes about cheese-eating surrender monkies we have in our world might actually be considered real here. That the French have to admit that no matter what the French just can't fight the Germans, they WILL lose no matter what.

This is an idea I've had in my head for a while, it's only now I've been able to articulate this idea into something cohesive,

Since the Second American Civil War (1945-1949) there has existed an unspoken rule within American media (chiefly film and television) to not mention the civil war or to allude that there ever was a second civil war. This practice dominated television throughout the 1950s and 60s and it was dubbed the Rule of Silence by media insiders. It is erroneously believed that the Rule of Silence is part of the Hays Code. This is not true given the Hays Code was created in the 1930’s.

i-love-lucy-lucy-ricky.jpg

I Love Lucy, the most-watched show in North America during the 1950’s set the foundations not only for the situation comedy but for the Rule of Silence as well.

It was only in the 1970s that film and tv studios began to challenge and break the Rule of Silence. The tv show M.A.S.H. being the poster child of this trend. Academics speculate that this was because the generation born after the civil war had now grown up and begun to demand media that articulated their post-American identities. Others say it was because of the policy of détente by the various American states and the expansion of the North American Trade Organization (NATO) that allowed for media to take risks it wouldn’t have been able to take earlier

A groundbreaking show in many respects. The most significant impact M.A.S.H. made was that the show took place during the Second American Civil War, and the show made made no attempts to hide or brush aside the fact.

Dallas (left) and Dukes of Hazard(right) two shows made in the Pacific States but targeted to audiences in the Christian Commonwealth of America. These shows reflect the trend of studios moving away from pre-war pan American idealism to specific regional settings.

Although not as prevalent as it was in the past, the Rule of silence is still used in American media to this day. Largely because it allows creators to appeal to the largest spectrum of viewers in the North American market. The DC Cinematic Universe being a prime example.

And of course if the German Empire is forced to play nice with Pelley's Commonwealth out of necessity, something like this could be made

Sedan Day for Kaiserreich Germany feels like a major one.
Bastile Day for any variant of France.
Oh yes, the Bastile Day sounds like a great idea for a Commune of France sci-fi epic.

Anyone got ideas for actors?

I've been replaying New Vegas and it got me thinking about what Fallout would look like in Kaiserreich. I found this image on the TNO reddit and went with it.

Radioskampf: Ein Postnukleares Rollenspiel Is a role-playing video game developed and published by Magnustechnik. It was released October 23rd, 1997 and was met with critical and commercial success. It is often listed among the greatest video games of all time. Among other games Radioskampf has been credited for renewing consumer interest in role-playing games due to its setting and open-ended plot and gameplay. It has also received praise for its scathing satire of German jingoism and consumer culture. The game’s popularity in North America prompted Magnustechnik to release an official English translation in 1999 under the name Fallout. Radioskampf’s success has spawned a series of successful sequels and spinoffs.

Radioskampf is set in an alternate world where a retro-futuristic atomic age representation of the 1950s dominated the culture and society of that world. On October 23, 2077, a global nuclear war devastates the planet and destroys modern civilization. The events of Radioskampf takes place in a 2127, 50 years after the war, and follow the Nest Geboren, a human born and raised in the Adlerhorst, one of a number of nuclear shelters built to protect the survivors of the war.

Adlerhorst is located at the foot of the Alps near Innsbruck, and the survivors outside the Adlerhorst live off the salvage of the old world. The player’s character, the Nest Geboren, is tasked with exploring the surrounding wasteland in order to find a replacement computer chip for the Adlerhorst’s malfunctioning heating system. The player has a limited amount of time to find the replacement chip or else the inhabitants of Adlerhorst will freeze to death.

Gameplay revolves around the Nest Geboren exploring the wasteland and interacting with other survivors, some of whom give the player missions. The Nest Geboren can explore major settlements including Grüne Felder, a farming community forced to pay tribute to rivaling gangs of Freikorps; Tauschstadt, a bustling merchant city mired in turf wars by the various trade guilds; and Verfault, a community of various nuclear mutants who are shunned by the rest of wasteland forced to live in the irradiated ruins of Munich.

The Nest Geboren’s travels brings them into contact with various factions like the Eiserne Bruderschaft, a knightly order of warrior monks; the guilds of Tauschstadt; many roving gangs of Freikorps who range from simple bandits to religious cults; and the Schwarze Sonne, an army of nigh invulnerable super mutants who are seemingly immune to radiation.

The Nest Geboren can obtain the replacement chip in a variety of ways, each one giving some benefit and some consequence that will affect the player’s interactions with other factions and the ending. Once the Nest Geboren brings the chip back to Adlerhorst, the nest leader tasks the Nest Geboren to destroy the Schwarze Sonne before they overrun the region. Once the Nest Geoben finds and enters the castle the Schwarze Sonne have use as their base, the Nest Geboren realizes that the Schwarze Sonne threat is much larger than they alone can handle and destroying the castle will only be a temporary setback for them. The player can either decide to join the Schwarze Sonne or proceed with destroying the castle. If the player goes with the latter option, the Nest Geboren will inform the Adlerhorst they are safe while the Nest Geboren elects to remain in the wasteland studying the Schwarze Sonne and warning others of the danger.

The DC Cinematic Universe (DCCU) is a media franchise and shared universe centered around superhero films produced by DC Entertainment. The films are based on characters that appear in comic books published by DC Comics. The franchise also includes television series, short films, digital series, and literature. The shared universe, much like the original DC comic books, was established by crossing over common plot elements, settings, cast, and characters.

The first DCCU film was Aquaman (2006) which began the films of Phase One culminating the crossover film The Justice League (2011). Phase Two began with Aquaman 3 (2012) and concluded with Hawkgirl (2014). Phase Three began with Batman: Hush (2015) and concluded with Justice League: United (2019). The first three phases have been dubbed “The Equation Saga”. The films of Phase Four that will start the “New Gods Saga” will debut with Harley Quinn and the Birds of Prey (2020).

The franchise has been commercially successful and has generally received positive reviews. It has inspired other film and television studios to attempt to create similar shared universes with comic book character adaptations. Marvel, DC’s primary rival has launched its own combined universe with mixed success.

By the early 2000’s DC had begun to independently produce and distribute its own films through their parent company Warner Bros. These early films were co-produced with other studios such as Legendary Pictures, and New Line Cinema. DC Entertainment made relatively little profit from its licensing deals with the other studios and wanted to get more money out of its films while maintaining artistic control of the projects and distribution. Geoff Johns, the newly elected president of DC Entertainment envisioned creating a shared universe just as had been done with their comic books. He realized, while it would be difficult to convince Warner Bros. to give him the film rights of DC’s heavy hitters like Batman and Superman, DC Entertainment still owned the rights to the core Justice League members. The executives of Warner Bros. were skeptical about the potential of the franchise as they already had a Superman and a Batman movie in the works, but they agreed to give Johns a seven-year period and a credit of $500 million to produce seven films based on his idea.

The first film of the DCCU Aquaman, released in summer of 2006 which competed with Superman Returns. Everyone expected Aquaman to fail but were shocked to see it gross over $100 million on its opening weekend while Superman Returns only made $50 million. Shocked by its unexpected success Warner Bros. gave their full support to Geoff Johns vison and scrapped or redirected much of its existing DC projects to the new franchise.

The DC One-Shots are a series of direct-to-video short films produced by DC Entertainment, set within the DCCU. Released between 2011-2015, they were included as special features on the DCCU’s Blu-ray and digital distribution releases. The films range from 3-15 minutes, are designed as self-contained stories that provide additional backstories for characters and events introduced in the films.

The first two shorts received generally negative reviews, but the rest were more positivity received and highlighted for their contributions in expanding the DCCU. All the One-Shots were made available on Watchtower when the Bat Family mockumentary shorts (2017-2019) were reclassified as One-Shots.

DC Entertainment has produced multiple television series set in the DCCU across broadcast, streaming, and cable. The first DCCU tv series were aired on The CW, then expanded to Blockbuster’s streaming service debuting with The Suicide Squad (2016-2019). Then, when Blockbuster was forced to breakup its illegal monopoly, Warner Bros. was quick to release its Young Adult Series on its own streaming service, Watchtower. DC has announced they plan release all future content exclusively on Watchtower.

Awesome work here! Can you tell us who some of the actors are?

Also, what the plot for Übermensch: Kaiser's Sohn?

Yes but is he writing a book?
Yes he did, he did write the LOTR as technically is contemporary to the POD(ie before no unrestricted submarine warfare) so the idea of LOTR/Middle Earth Saga still happened, a flavour event was that the exile might have leaked into his works and he denied, saying all his inspiration came back his education and the great war. It was a flavor event in South Africa and Canada Gameplays, Dunno if is still there

Übermensch: Kaiser's Sohn, is set in an alternate world where Clark Kent crash lands in Germany instead of Kansas and becomes a superhero in Germany. The Kaiser formally acknowledges Superman's existence by adopting him and appointing him as the heir apparent of the German Empire. This causes the United States, led by Lex Luthor to begin an arms race of superheroes to defeat Germany and its Übermensch. At the same time, Superman/Übermensch has to navigate court intrigue, Luthor's meddling, and existential threats whilst trying to do good and make the world safe.

Does the Supergirl series have Melissa Benoist and Katie McGrath in it? And maybe Supercorp?

And what other actors do you have in DC? Also, how is Marvel doing?
