Whilst the Soviet Union still suffered from the same traditional symptoms as the Imperial government, such levels of centralization and government authority were unprecedented in Russian history.

So in a spirtual-cultural sense is the SU a continuation of Russia. Or as Solyenitsyn but it an aberration that wasn't Russia?
