Do you mean to start or to finish? If it's to finish, what are the victory conditions? For instance, are invading troops in the major cities enough? Or a completely pacified countryside, no guerillas, a stable new govt etc?

Also, are you talking a "Go! Now!" scenario, or a build up?

If it is using the forces available right now, it will be longer and bloodier than a buildup and attack.

If it is a buildup, with or without a preliminary bombing phase, the invasion would be short, but are you then counting the build up time as well?

Never it would happens buddy, unless N. Korea do something DUMB and nazi-grade evil on CHINESES AND AMERICANS (or allies..).

For now, PRC use NK as a sort of 'buffer state' to be not in contact to allies of USA, (pure, occidental, liberal) capitalist states. Albeit North Korea start to wear their patience and embarass them I admit, but at best, I see the leaders in Beijing just saying going' ah, fuck this shit' and not helping them/dumping them the day Pyongyang need them.

Yeah I think it's very unlikely that China would invade DPRK in conjunction with the US, if the regime ever did something crazy to provoke the US I think China would just wash its hands of it and stay out. Any future Korean War will see the destruction of the DPRK but ROK would take an awful beating and Japan would also be hit with WMD. If China did get involved then Manchuria and most of East China are going to get liberally showered with chemical weapons, Juche is based on ideas of Korean racial superiority and has particularly strong Sinophobic aspects so the DPRK probably has a warplan to deal with a Chinese invasion.

Albeit a weird possibility I could foresee is that the PRC in an extreme turn get disgusted and enough, and go at it itself. In something like a quick 'liberation commandos' serie of strikes, to remove the Juche regime and put something more.. amiable. And the USA may sit out of it, judging it's an improvement at least.

Not unlike the quick Sino-Vietnamese war after 'Nam, maybe.

Or the Chinese decide that they still want a buffer so as the Southern border gets overrun it invades from the North and they meet up somewhere.

As the South probably would set up some sort of occupation zone and the Chinese likewise it could be interesting.

North Korea and Norther Korea.
