I've been thinking of trying to do a serious timeline, but I'm not sure what line to pursue. My problem is, the last time I tried, I went too far and made the series ASB while ignoring butterflies, and the like.
So, I have a few ideas for smaller butterfly ideas, and wanted to put out which ones people would recommend I try, or would like to see.
Also, I'd really like it if someone could co-write with me if possible, or at least give advice. It'd help in writing it in the long run.

1. Losaintville: City of Light, City of Dark
Basically, the alternate history of Cincinnati and the area from its formation in the 1780's. Not only would it have a different name, but also different events would be different.

2. Know-Nothings and Over the Rhine:
A AH version of the 1855 Know-Nothing Riots in the Over the Rhine area of Cincinnati gets worse, leading to greater cooperation between immigrant groups, and the area also becomes heavily anti-slave (to be fixed through discussion how).

3. A Harsher Treaty-
an alternate history of the state of Ohio, following the Treaty of Greenville, and later in which a part of it is made into a reservation for Natives during Jackson's presidency.

4. Sunny in Mexico-
The Mexican-American war ends with parts of Mexico under U.S. occupation, and possible annexation, due to stronger All-Mexico movements in the U.S.

5. Brunels in America-
Basically, Marc Isambard Brunel decides to stay in America, and raises his family there, and how it changes American Industrialization.

6. Cherokee Nation-
the bulk of the Cherokee nation joins the colonial cause during the ARW, and manages to keep its land in Georgia after the war, and leads to a different government policy.

7.Other-
none of these work in your opinion and want to suggest something else, you have an idea and need someone to help you with it, or you like an idea, but think a different POD or result should occur, please go with this.

I know some of these are either the results of really massive butterflies, or might even be ASB to some people, but I'd welcome any help you could give in deciding would be gratefully appreciated.

Personally, I'd like to see #4, Sunny in Mexico, and the congressional debates that followed over the slave-free state question.

Barring that, I think #5 would be nice.

Oh! Combine the two!!

I'd be glad to help you co-write it. Send me a PM and we'll see if we can get a few ideas going.

I chose the Mexico timeline, but maybe that's just because I'm not from Ohio and don't find the others that interesting.

Sunny in Mexico is a interesting TL.... You will have to deal with a social change, with America being less Anglo-centric, how this will change the perspective of Europeans, all that. I hope you'll be up to the task. If you choose this then I shall prpose you this title
Oh, Its Always Sunny in Mexico! An Manifest Destiny TL.
I hope you will change the Canadian border, maybe all of Oregon but no Alaska?

I have to say, if I could have voter for two I would have also voted for the Cherokee state one.

But I have a soft spot for larger america series.

Well, Sunny in Mexico has a strong lead of four to cherokee nation 10...

Alright...any discussion/ideas/no-nos people should get out of their system?
By that, any pitfalls in writing about this POD I and WD should be aware of when writing it? Butterflies that are unlikely to happen, etc?

Easy, think more about racism, expanding of slavery in the USA all of that. Plus you should also think about the Canadian border too, maybe all of Oregon's acquirement encourages the "All Mexico" faction?

Okay...a tie. Interesting.

Now, if Mexico wins, would it be plausible for the U.S. army to be larger that it was after the Mexican-American War (Or War of American Agression against Mexico, dependent on personal feelings). By that, if a large portion of Mexico is under US occupation, would the regular army be larger, or would we rely on local or perhaps state militas. I'm asking, because I know the US Army was usually reduced heavily after conflicts during the 19th century, so I'd like to know from any of our political/military buffs on this site that might be able to answer this.

If youre doing Mexico then the USA would rely on state militas, for logistical reasons.

That does mean though that they depend on people who are there at the whim of themselves and the state...militias service record during the war was pretty patchy at points...
Hmm...the POD does offer some opportunity for commanders who would serve in the civil war down the road...Thomas, Lee, Grant, Davis, etc.
Also, volunteer units were not very much loved by either the regulars or the Mexicans...

Cherokee won... I think more people would be interested in Sunny in Mexico then Cherokee really.
EDITED: Woohoo! A draw!

I voted for Brunel in America, but had I known it was between two I would have voted for the Cherokee TL. I don't think that one is possible, but I want to see the attempt.

Hmmm...apparently, Native American nation has increased interest on this site....20-18, 2 point lead is pretty close.
Still, the decision will be made tomorrow, for any final votes to still come in.
Alright, what POD's can be given for a stronger, and less-removable Cherokee nation if this one wins?
For example, I don't intend it to be so powerful the government could never crush it, but the time and energy to do so would be more than what it'd like to do...
Also, does anyone think Nancy Ward could be used in the timeline at all?

You could just settle for a Cherokee dominated US State.
