Political system of North America with a North+Canada and enlarged Dixie states

Let's assume a TL where Canada/Quebec, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland side with the Patriots in the ARW, America wins but the Southern states go separate. In due time the southern entity expands to include Florida, Texas, the Southwest, northern Mexico, the British Caribbean and/or the Spanish Caribbean. In the meanwhile, the northern entity expands to include Rupert's Land, North-Western Territory, Oregon-Columbia, Alaska (and optionally the British Arctic Territories and Greenland as well) by conquest, purchase, or diplomacy. Louisiana and the former Mexican territories get split alongside the 36°30' parallel all the way to the Pacific (this may or may not include California, depending on how the division happens). We may call the northern entity United States of Northern America (USNA), and it has a constitution quite similar to OTL USA.

The division may happen in two ways:

a) the Southern states (except Virginia) remain loyal to Britain (they are TTL *Canada). They get unified with other British Caribbean colonies and later the Spanish Caribbean ones, the latter being conquered during the Napoleonic Wars. They manage to annex Texas, the Southwest, northern Mexico, and southern California by means similar to OTL. They attempt to break away from Britain over the issue of slavery, the revolt is quashed but in due time they are granted Dominion autonomy status and in due time, independence within the Commonwealth. They have a constitution quite similar to OTL Australia, but with a Bill of Rights similar to OTL Canada. We may call them Dominion of Southern America (DSA) in the 19th century, and Confederate States of Southern America (CSSA) in the 20th-21st centuries.

This is the preferred option, since it neatly deals with the nasty issue of slavery.

b) the ACW happens more or less the usual way, but the CSA wins the war thanks to Anglo-French support. The peace treaty is such that they get all the OTL rebel states and the Southwest, but the Union keeps all the border states, West Virginia, and southern California (it's not a CSA total victory). Either before or after the ACW, the CSA manages to acquire northern Mexico, and later Cuba and Puerto Rico in the equivalent of the SAW.

This is the least preferred option, since it leaves the slaveocracy be, with all its dystopic effects.

In both variants, some butterflies apply concerning the states:

Ontario gets divided into southern and northern states, and the western part of the latter goes to "Manitoba".

The northern halves of the prairie Canadian states are merged in one state.

Alaska, Yukon, and northern Columbia are merged into one state.

Labrador is merged with Quebec, PEI with NS.

Northwest Territory, Nunavut, and Nord-du-Quebec form one territory.

Texas is divided into two states alongside the Colorado river, and the Panhandle is merged with Oklahoma.

Cuba is divided into two states.

West Virginia and Virginia always split.

North and South Dakota are merged in one state.

Most of the Upper Peninsula goes to Wisconsin.

Eastern Oregon forms a new state.

Eastern Washington, Idaho panhandle, and western Montana merge in a new state.

USNA annexes Nicaragua and CSSA annexes Panama in order to build and get full control, on the Nicaragua Canal and Panama Canal, respectively.

How do you foresee the political system, and the socio-economic status, of both countries to evolve ?

Another Option

C) The split happens at the Constitutional Convention over slavery with the northern states (including Canadian states) ratifying an anti-slavery Constitution and calling themselves the United States of America the southern states going their own way with the Confederate States of America with a looser union based on the old Articles of Confederation, maybe slightly stronger.

Yep, that's another definite possibility. Now, coming back at the topic, how would the political system of the two states develop ?
