Political ramifications of successful assassination of Pope John Paul ii?

What would be the political ramifications of the 1981 assassination attempt on Pope John Paul II being successful?

Bulgaria becomes a pariah state and the Soviet Union becomes a Eviler Empire;)

Also Catholicism would be weaker in the West without a hero like JP II revitalizing the faith.:(

I read somewhere that a successful assassination could have led to anti-Soviet revolts in Catholic Poland and an earlier breakup of the Soviet Union. What do you think of this?

I don't know about the Soviet Union but a Polish uprising was a real possibility, the country had been unstable during the 80s and that really could have sent things over the abyss. I'm not an expert on Polish Culture but I can't see that being anything but a horrible mess.

Bulgaria became a pariah state anyway, despite the obvious absurdity of the theory of "Bulgarian involvement". I don't see that much difference.
