Polical & other effects of a Facist/Mussolini led Italy 1945 - 1965+

Leaving aside the effects during WWII, Italy remains neutral or Allied aligned pre 1945. How does a Facist Italy influence events post 1945.

If this waives away the Greek & Balkans campaigns then can we assume no Communist revolt & civil war in Greece, nor a Communist government in Yugoslavia? Does the Red Army bother with Bulgaria?

How much stronger does a stable understated Italy make NATO? Would Italy be a member?

Does this encourage the view of Facisim as a viable political/economic movement into the 1950s?

That was interesting reading. I'd have to go through it again before any direct comment. Since the US often supported a assortment of dictators in the Cold War Facist governments don't seem off the table.

I would guess that in case of the Yugoslavia, Greece and Bulgaria not getting into WW2 they could easily become a proxy battlefield during the Cold War. Communists, if we assume Soviet Union still wins in fairly similar fashion to OTL, will have significant PR boost.

THe big change are in the decolonization process; an Italy still intact and still in the game mean continued support for Portugal and Spain in their colonial war (sure in the end they will give up part of their empire but will keep much more than OTL); same can be said for France, with Italy still in possession of Lybia i doubt that Benny will not help the French in fighting the independence movement in Tunisia and Algeria or not helping putting down Nasser.

Italy memberships in NATO (if exist) will be a little too controversial (much depend on Benny behaviour during the war), more probably a situation like Spain (material and monetary support but not official ties).

Said that, with Italy neutral the butterfly are big enough that the situation in Europe will not be so dire or the european powers so mauled that without US support and presence will easily fall; meaning a strong possibility that post-war USA will return to isolationism

I'm having trouble seeing either. Unless the war ends far sooner the destruction of the core industrial regions will be as bad, or perhaps worse.

Like Portugal Italy would be in a good position to cling to its colonies into the 1970s. Perhaps beyond?
