Poland Democratic in the 1930s

As I understand it prior to its destruction in 1939 Poland was run on authoritarian and rather conservative lines.

Had the system of government been different might it have felt a greater affinity to the neighbouring Democracy Czechoslovakia.

Perhaps. OTOH, there was still a matter of Tesin / Cieszyn. Also, Polish nationalists (National Democracy) had many followers in Poland at that time and they could honestly win elections. They weren't exactly friendly to Czechs...or Germans...or Jews...well, all non-Polish (with possible exception of Hungarians).

Actually, all you need to change are Polish-German relations. Turn them worse. And then the common enemy might do the trick (for Poland and Czechoslovakia). And change the Polish foreign minister. What was he thinking...?

Indeed. My understanding is that the Polish Communists welcomed the Piludski coup to keep them out of power.

Communists were not really important. The May coup was supported by most of the left - including socialists and leftist agrarians. Communnists were a small minority.
