I'm sure lots of people, Pokemon fans or not, know about this already. Back in '97 there was an incident where hundreds of kids were hospitalized because of a scene in a Pokemon episode that caused epileptic seizures. Fortunately nobody died.

But what if someone had died that day as a result of that episode?

Pokemon was only a year old when this episode aired. Would the show have gotten banned completely? Even if it did continue airing, would it even be as popular as it is CTL? I can see lots of parents not wanting their kids to watch a show that resulted in the death of someone.

Assuming no ban, how would it do in the West? Would it's popularity be affected at all?
