The Third Century was a traumatic period of the Roman Empirethat some argue nearly lead to the total collapse of the Empire. Economic collapse, small pox, Balkaniztion occurred during this period. Notably it lead to the end of the Principate period in which Roman Emperor and society at least respected the spirit of the Roman Republic. The Resulting Dominate lead to a much more Hellenistic Autocratic rule that likely characterized the Byzantines and 'Divine Right'.
Possible PODs are abound for the collapse of the Empire, Resurgence of the Principate, different Emperors and so forth.
I will put forward the Battle of Naissaus. It was in terms of fighting the Goths a sort of minor victory as it only delayed their threat, but more importantly it legitimized the reign of Aurelliam by his heroicism. Aurellian would importantly lead to the reunification of the Roman Empire. Let us say it is a Roman defeat and both Claudius 'Gothicus' and Aurellian were killed. It could lead to the defeT of the Roman Empire or the reunification under the Gallic Empire.
