PoDs and the Time of Christ

A bit affected by the Christmas spirit (but only in a fashion that could be suffered by a member of this board), I'm thinking about dabbling some (and perhaps doing some serious work on, once I find the time to focus on it) on a story set during the time of Christ. One of the things which I'd like to figure out before doing this, though, is what possible PoD would produce the most interesting result by this point.

Any ideas?

Edit The Search function on the site isn't working for me (and hasn't for a couple of weeks, for that matter), so I'd also be interested in reading any existing threads on the matter.

Most of the nativity myth (and imo the nativity at all but I'll get shouted down for daring to say it) should go in ASB.

Nah. No shouting down, at least from my quarter. I am planning on using this for a TL where Christianity has a divine origin and thus there's ASB elements there, but right now I'm only interested in the stuff that's happening before that becomes relevant.

I suppose that I was unclear with my original request. I'm not looking for PoDs relating to Christ in particular but, rather, things like "Persia has become dominant in the Middle East" or "Alexander went west instead of east and overran Rome, strangling the Empire in its cradle."

To put it another way, I'm looking for TLs which will have interesting results in the area of Palestine around, say, 50 BC through till 50 AD.

Yeah this should go in ASB.

See above. Sorry about being unclear the first time around.

I actually suck at roman history past the end of the republic.
What about a Parthian-Roman war throwing a wrench in things? It's not too hard to make the two fight.

I don't think not much can change in the Middle East. It's unlikely to see Parthia boot out the Romans from the East. Maybe instead of having a Jewish client state under Herod to begin with, have direct Roman administration instead?

WI Jesus of Nazareth survives crucifixion and heads east to gather lost tribes of Israel? I love all these "Jesus in India and China" myths... so why not write a fictional TL from the point of view that they actually happened.

Or go with the theory that he became comatose during the crucifixion and his followers break into the tomb and free him, healing him.
