POD for reforging a Kingdom of Israel?

inspired by a recent game of Crusader Kings 2 in which I managed (after a good 3 centuries) to restore the holy land to the Jewish people, it got me wondering-were there any potential chances of make a new Kingdom of Israel before 1900, or even before 1800?

If the ERE had folded and permanently lost most of the East to the Sassanids in the 7th C., I could see a chance for a vassal kingdom of Israel coming into being.
Requires a far less damaged than OTL Persia, a less influential role of Mesopotamian Christians in the Persian decision-making train and consistent, and consistent support of the Jews over Christians in the Holy Land by the Sassanid ruling class.

How large was the Jewish population in the Holy Land during this period? My understanding was that, while there was still a Jewish minority throughout the period, it was very small post-Bar Kokhba. I'd think the Sassanians (assuming they didn't just keep it for themselves) would be more likely to create a Nestorian puppet.

And obviously no Christian or Muslim ruler during the Medieval period (or really anytime pre-Napoleon) would create such a puppet over one of their holy cities.

It would seem that Jews made up a majority of Byzantine Palestina Secunda (Galilee and East Bank)during much of the Byzantine period. Jerusalem and the coast (Palestina Prima) were majority Christian but still contained a large Jewish minority.

OTL the Sassanians did facilitate the short-lived Jewish-Sasanian commonwealth (an autonomous vassal state) after the Sassanids temporarily defeated the ERE in the East during the Byzantine-Sassanian war of the early 7th C.

But could it last?

A good start might involve Joseph Nasi's 16th-century Galilee colonization scheme getting off the ground, leading to a Jewish-majority area that could become a kingdom when the Ottoman Empire declines.

When I 1st read this thread,I immediately thought of Nasi, but dismissed him as being less likely than a much earlier POD. Could you elaborate on the viability of Nasi's schemes?

If they can get along well with Khosrau and the local Christians, and if the Persians ultimately win the war against the ERE, and if the Arabs either don't invade or are defeated, it might. It's unlikely to say the least, but not impossible.

If the Persians emerged from the war strong and not as per OTL drastically weakened and prone to civil war, the Arab invasions might just be butterflied away.

You can start here and here. He'd need to put more money into the project, provide some protection against pirates, and devote full time to it rather than going off on tangents. Butterflying the Ottoman-Venetian war of 1570-73, which interrupted the flow of Italian Jewish immigrants, would also help.

A long time ago, in a forum far, far away, I suggested a POD in which Fakhr al-Din II's Druze rebellion occurred under his grandfather instead, and Nasi persuaded the Sultan to allow him to raise Jewish troops to crush the revolt. This then became the nucleus of a Jewish quasi-state in the Galilee similar to Lebanon under the Shihabis. If you start here and expand the 20 or so succeeding posts, you should get the idea. This is the one where I actually proposed the POD.

I was always struck by Nasi's never seeing a job done to its end before a new "shiny" distracted him. ;) but, yes, I see where you were going with this.
