WI Tony Blair and Gordon Brown had not made their secret Granita deal and Brown had run in and won first the Labour leadership election and then the next British general election?
Brown was as charasmatic as a house brick. A grey one, on a grey background, and the british public places a lot on that.
The same British public that had just elected John Major?
Remember that he was facing Neil Kinnock who was bland as well.
OK, then the same British public that voted for Ted Heath over Harold Wilson in 1970. (I really can't think of a better example off the top of my head.)
Attlee beating Churchill?

I like Brown more than Blair. Do you think he would go off on the Iraqi adventure with America?
Considered it, but I really don't know anything about what Attlee was like and I can see how British voters may have found Churchill the opposite of charismatic.
As for Churchill's defeat, it wasn't about him, it was more to do with the fact that he led the Tories, who were still being blamed for the Depression, Appeasement, the War, the death of Bambi's mother, and so on.
