I'm pretty sure that, e.g., the Russian conquest of Siberia predates horse artillery and the widespread use of canister.
The Khanate of Sibir wasn't the army of Batu Khan. It was more like North American native tribes paying vassalage to Mongol elite. Further east into Siberia and the people often didn't have metal tools or even horses, and we're as susceptible to diseases as people of the New World. And there were far fewer of them.
