Here’s a quick timeline I made about a Communist Scandinavian State.

1914 - World War I starts with the assassination of Franz Ferdinand. Norway - Sweden remains neutral throughout it.

1919 - World War I ends.

1925 - Norway - Sweden is split after a referendum. While Norway adopts a parliamentary system with a prime minister similar to the UK, Sweden adopts a socialist government.

1930 - Sweden invades Norway in about half a year. It annexes all of Norway and becomes the Socialist Scandinavian Republic, commonly known as just Scandinavia.

1935 - A new leader is elected. He is a strong left wing nationalist and invades Northern Denmark in 1936. He also makes Scandinavia a communist state in 1940. And while a communist state, tried to stay out of Soviet affairs, similar to Yugoslavia.

1941 - Germany invades Scandinavian Denmark and later Southern Norway. Scandinavia has no choice and declares war on Germany and its allies and joins the allied forces. Western Scandinavians were sent to fight the Western Front, while Eastern Scandinavians were sent to fight on the Eastern Front. In the Summer of 1942 Finland, under pressure from Germany, invades East Scandinavia and the U.S.S.R. The U.S.S.R. and Scandinavia fight back and gain and split Finish land between them.

1955 - While not wanting too, Scandinavia is forced to join the Warsaw Pact because of Russian intimidation. After this, Scandinavia just becomes and remains one of the many Russian puppet states.

1960 - A dictator is put in Scandinavian office, being the last elected official in Scandinavia until 1991.

1989 - The Scandinavian revolution starts; On October 5, 1989 thousands of rebels gathered in Stockholm protest the Soviet government. Most are assassinated or taken to labor camps.

January 10, 1990 - Norway declares itself an independent democratic state. About two months later Sweden declares itself an independent state.

April 2, 1991 - Scandinavia has it’s first election in 31 years.

June 5, 1991 - Norway and Sweden both gain their independence, while Denmark remains part of Sweden. Today, Norway and Sweden remain largely out of world affairs and have GDPs comparable to Romania. They are on track to becoming NATO states. There is also a push for Danish independence in Sweden.

Thank you for reading. Please give me tips for improvement!

In 1941, if Germany invaded Denmark and Southern Norway, I think both the Western Scandinavians and the Eastern Scandinavians will be sent to fight in Southern Norway.

There is so many flaws that I don't even know where from start:

- Sweden-Norway splitted already long time before WW1.
- How and why exactly Sweden and Norway became soscialist and why did Sweden invade Norway on 1920's?

The Union of Sweden and Norway was dissolved in 1905. Norway is seceding from Sweden so Sweden has no need to pick a new form of government. I think you need to figure out what the PoD is then work from there.

Also the developments you outlined don't give impetus for a Swedish turn to radical socialism or expansionism.

In addition to the objections raised before - this would have butterflies, both in terms of the Cold War, and in its duration. No particular reason the Eastern bloc has to collapse in 1989.

I know there is lots of flaws. I’ve been reading AH for years and this is the first timeline I’ve made. Thanks for all the helpful tips. I’m gonna edit it and repost it.

So how/why was the title of this changed? I know it received criticism (including from me), but for someone to call it “crap” is a little harsh.

Okay. Not reading it. :p

More seriously.
- How does Sweden-Norway hold on until 1925 ? IOTL they broke apart in 1905.
- Why does Sweden go socialist in 1925? Is it just an election result ? If yes, socialism doesn't mean communism.
- Why would Sweden want to invade Norway in 1930 ? The OTL split was amicable.
- Scandinavian nationalism isn't a strong force at this point. What would bring it back into a prominent force ? The likelier nationalists are Swedes and Norwegians.
- What exactly is Northern Denmark to you and why don't they go after it all ?
- Why would the Danes not want their independence before the Norwegians ? They have a much longer-lasting antagonism with the Swedes which would likely dominate Scandinavia.

I know. I made them stay together until 1925 because it just flows better. But yes, OTL they were united until 1905.

The 1905 independence referendum was almost literally a unanimous vote in Norway, so even preventing a split right then and there would be difficult. You certainly would need a lot to justify them sticking together another 20 years. I think this needs a POD well before 1900. Hell, probably before 1800, too.

1. It just seemed convenient at the time.
2. Yes it is an election result. And socialism doesn’t always mean communism, but a radical leader lead them to that.
3. Because of the radical leader. But he didn’t take power till 1935, so he should invade Norway around that time.
4. Well Denmark is a connection to mainland Europe, so I figured that would be important.
5. They did want it. The Swedes just didn’t want to let it go.
Thanks for the feedback.

The Swedes would want to keep the Danskjävlar in ?
Eh no.
