Plausibility of combined Vandalia-Transylvania

The colonies of Vandalia and Transylvania were proposed in our timeline:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transylvania_(colony)

However, I note that these colonies would have had tiny populations compared to most on the East coast. Is it plausible they could have been formed as a single colony, or is it implausible due to being over too large a distance or other reasons? Obviously we will need to assume a longer period of benign neglect from Britain.

That is some very rough landscape to form a state out of. It was basically considered impassible territory at the time. Most of the early states had long flat coastal areas as a base.

I'm imagining if the British held America for longer, so maybe the 1790s.
