Plausibility - LBJ killed by anti-Vietnam War fanatic?

Just when and where? 65? 66? Election time, 1968?

I can see it, but again how? JFK style? (Say hello to conspiracy 101.) Or like Mckinley and Reagan?

Considering the turmoil in America 1966-71
IOTL, lord knows I don't find this senario ASB @ all. But I don't think it was very
likely. As his popularity plunged & protests
against him mounted(with hordes of anti-
war demonstrators chanting "Hey, hey LBJ
how many kids did you kill today?")Johnson
reacted by going out in public less & less.
When he did, he avoided motorcades &
shaking hands in favor of speeches indoors
where the crowds could be easily screened &
the exits & entrances closely watched by the
Secret Service. Under those circumstances
it would have been very difficult to shoot
Johnson(& in fact no assination attempts
were even made, though there were plenty
of threats).

Oh boy...

Having two presidents get assassinated in such quick succession by clearly left-leaning individuals (Let's avoid any JFK conspiricy theories here for a moment: as far as the public is aware at the time, Mr. "Only Member of the Fair Play for Cuba Committee" Oswald took out Kennedy) is going to have some severe effects on American perceptions of the domestic Red threat. I fully expect to see theories that the Soviets or "Pinkos" are actively trying to bring down the American government to become more widely accepted, with a corresponding tarring of left-of-center movements and more sympathy for McCarthism (or at least elements of it) as, if not desirable, at least justified and nessicery to defend democracy from being constantly overturned by Commie bullets.
