Plausibility: Continued Portugal-Brazil Union

Is it at all possible that Brazil and Portugal could have stayed united? IOTL they came apart in the 1820s when Portugal tried to return Brazil to colonial status rather than the equality it had gained in recent years. Could this be prevented? Perhaps the monarchy remains headquartered in Brazil, or the constitutionalist revolutionaries back on Portugal are inclined to look more kindly on Brazil for some reason?

look at the two different countries, it would be like Britain attempting to Keep the US while America was the size it is today, actually worse as Britain has 1/6 the population of the US and Portugal has 1/16 the population of Brazil.

It just doesn't make sense unless Portugal became a Brazilian state.
