Plausibility Check:The Confederate States of America in the Scramble for Africa?

Indeed, but my stance is just that the Brits and French didn't care to oppose them over it, CSA would probably do most of the heavy lifting, with maybe a little naval support if much at all. Perhaps some agreement where they helped the French put down the Mexican rebels against French rule in exchange for getting both a freer hand in South America and some support.

The British and French Empires would back the CSA against the USA primarily as a window for power politics in North America, any concept that they'd let the CSA have a slice of Africa vastly overstates what the CSA could do and understates what the British and French Empires are going to make of letting the most explicitly pro-slavery society of its era get access to a continent full of the race it itself declares natural-born slaves.

Uh... I was talking about South America not Africa.
