Plausibility Check: Republic of Belgium

Is it plausible for the monarchy to be abolished after Leopold's death due to the Congo free State?

I would not think so, the catholics were far too powerful at the time to allow such thing, and beside the will of Leopold II was such a gift to the state that no one would have wanted to do away with the king, even if there was not a direct father to son heritage line at the time (Albert I being Leopold II's nephew if I remember well). Because one thing most peoples outside of Belgium don't really know is that Leopold II gave all his money and possessions to the state, including close to 1/4th of Belgium's forests and a good deal of farm fields which were lent at low price to farmers. Also he gave hundreds of houses to the state. All this in exchange for an annual stipend to his heirs... He also gave the Belgians numerous monuments like de Cinquantenaire parc and museums, the Africa museum of Tervueren, etc.
So much that he was rather popular in fact. You'd have to make him a greedy pig only speaking french (historically he was the first king to speak flemish, in the 1880's) to make some grumble, but it would be mainly flemish grumbling and would not go far since most of the bourgeoisie was french speaking anyway.
