Plausibility Check: Nazi Remnants/Terrorist Cells

How plausible is this, as in what we saw in the Man With the Iron Heart?

With an early successful coup by German generals we could probably get a somewhat vital nazi revival movement.

edit: a movement in the manner of said AH, much much harder to create.

ASB. The Allies will be utterly merciless in stamping out the Werewolf Rebellion. They have not spent five years, billions of dollars and millions of dead and injured to simply leave the Soviets and the Nazis to carve up Europe.

Probably asb but imagine a different Soviet leadership. Cold war avoided by 'Finlandizin' Poland. I suspect that the fate of Hungary and other Nazi allied powers would not have been such a big deal

I can imagine a more thorough De Nazification and and home rule in Germany being postponed longer. Maybe that would create resistence in Germany

Earlier surrender...

In OTL, Germany was crushed like no country has been in a long, long time--occupied by force of arms. This showed the Germans that they had no chance of rising up. Had Hitler been replaced earlier, and Germany surrenderd with few allied troops already IN Germany, then many Germans don't see themselves as crushed--and might revolt.

For something like this you have to put the PoD well before 1943, maybe before 1942. Roosevelt & Co. had been leaning towards completely crishing German resistance well before the 'Unconditional Surrender' policy was set at the Symbol Confrence in January 1943. Any defeat of Germany after the US enters the war is going to include complete occupation and defeat of nazi government. That is a Complete defeat.

Maybe some sort of defeat in 1941 or earlier might allow a viable nazi or facist movement to continue. By 1942 the world leaders were even more fed up with Hitler than the leaders of 1813 were done with Napoleon.

Anything attempted would be put down, as other posters have said, with utter brutality. Neither the Soviets nor the West will tolerate any resistance.

Butterfly away the war weariness from 6 years of total war and the total moral, social and political bankruptcy of a big part of the german population and than we could talk.

Konrad Adenauer was reelected four times because he promised: "No experiments!" and the people agreed with him.

Add to that the Marshal plan gave the Germans hope. In a world where the population sees only misery and suffering from the occupation forces a resistance movement could be born, but than I tend to think it will be communist than facist.

I've heard that early in the war, the British did begin to develop a plan to assassinate Hitler, but by 1943, the war was clearly turning in the favor of the Allies. It was also decided that the Germans needed to be decisively beaten on the battlefield, and as a result those plans got shelved.

The Allies wouldn't tolerate Nazi resisitance. Just like Nazis wouldn't tolerate French partisans and Jewish resistance. And yet...

The issue is leaving the Nazis not so overwhelmingly, grindingly destroyed.
