Plausibility Check: Marquis De Sade

Guys I'm in the midst of outlining my timeline and I would like to do a plausibility check on an aristocrat like the Marquis De Sade becoming the head of state/government of the First French Republic during the revolutionary period.

My questions:

Could an aristocrat serving in the National Convention hope to advance his station?

How reactive were the foreign powers to the Church of Reason?

Much appreciated.

He's too much of a lunatic to hope seeing his aristocratic background being forgotten, or to doesn't being suspected after his son deserts. His chances are close to none and really poor.

As for the Cult of Reason, it didn't had too much importance even during its short-lived existence : it wasn't seriously taken by most of the population, while it annoyed most Revolutionnaries (atheism being a mark of aristocracy for most of Conventionals)
