Plausibility Check: Emperor Georges Boulanger

Very unlikely to the point of impossibility. The title was associated very strongly with Bonapartism, which was completely dicredited after the F-P War (and Louis Napoleon needed a deep breathe before donning the crown). Boulanger was neither an ambitious man nor a Bonapartist.

I agree with IBC- Caesarism was desperately feared by the 3rd Republic, that's why there was such a weak executive and it led, eventually, to the fall of the 4th Republic.

If butterflies ever do put Boulanger in charge, I don't think he'd be crazy enough to make himself Emperor. The title was too tarnished by the Bonapartes after the F-P War. If he restores the monarchy, he'll likely pick the Orléanist branch of the Bourbons while making sure that he is the power behind the throne.

But what if he chose not to be the power before the throne, what would be his title since Emperor would be tarnished and King already had 2 claimants? Would he make President a monarchical title or use some obscure French title?
