The western schism was practically the continuation of the avignon papacy, sparked when a pope was finally elected in rome, but the anti-pope in avignon refused to comply. The western schism continued up until the early 15th century, with Martin V's election as the sole and only pope of rome.
So, i have a question: could the western schism continue for a few more centuries or up to the present day? If so, how?
