Not having done a lot of looking at south america before i wanted to see if i could put together an interesting TL without my predjudices being shoved into it and found the whole Beagle Islands conflict. One of the things i was looking at was the possibility of the Argentineans using the Veinticinco de Mayo to push around the Chileans just before the 70 election. I had an idea of what kind of waves that would cause but one i wanted to know if it could create a second dreadnought race in south america as the Chileans scrambled to procure a carrier of their own. After all both the Brazilians and the Argentineans had one at that point in time.
So I'm putting it out there, could the Chileans afford a carrier if Allende hadn't been elected? Would they be able to buy the HMS Eagle or would another Carrier be selected/on offer? What effects would this have on the navy, and any Junta that emerged after a Carrier purchase? Or would the Navy continue to be the 'Voice of the State' as it seemed to have been prior to the 73 Junta? or am i completely miss reading the navys relationship with the state by being a gringo?
