After WWII, the USN quickly decommissioned their two Tennessee class and three Colorado class battleships (the "Big Five"). These ships then sat in the mothball fleet until they were stricken in March 1959 and sold for scrap.

Was it possible for these ships to see active service (USN or otherwise) again after 1947/48? Would the USN ever reactivate them in response to a crisis leading to WWIII/other long term conflict (say Berlin Blockade, Korean War, Suez Crisis, insert other event here)?*

I apologize if this has been done before as this is my first thread. Mainly, I want to see if there is any realistic scenario that would justify retaining these ships in reserve for so long.

*And yes, I know that they were old, slow, and inferior to the Iowas/Alaskas/Baltimores, etc.
